Presidents Pen
Hey Bolivar Sport Flyers,
I hope you had a safe ending to 2007.
We've lost a member just before Christmas. Herb Hines passed away. Herb was one of the few true modelers left. He's been flying models and involved in aviation most of his life. He could tell stories of the earliest days of radio control. He preferred to build right off of plans. Quite a few that he drew himself. My most memorable model of his is the bipe that he had to use a rope that he wrapped around the crankshaft and pulled to start. The engine was converted from a chainsaw. Herb will be missed. May his skies be blue and the breeze be light and right down the runway. Keep his family that he left behind in your thoughts and prayers.
Herb's wife contacted Jim House. She'd like to sell Herbs airplanes and equipment. Next meeting we will discuss an auction to make that happen. Maybe this spring at our Spring Fun Fly we'll hold an auction. Send flyers to all the local clubs inviting them to fly and partake in the auction.
It's time to get those dues in. March is the cut off. When you do pay your dues, please be sure to add your address, phone number, and e-mail address. Those are important so that we keep up to date with contact info. Make checks out to Bolivar Sport Flyers. Those of you that don't owe dues, please turn in your contact info anyway so any changes can be made.
For the upcoming season there's bit of work to do on the outhouse. The doors have been damaged by the wind and need to be replaced. This time make them open to the inside. It also needs to be cleaned out. Several old magazines and trash are still on the floor. The club house interior walls and ceiling need to be painted to brighten it up. A few more lights on the ceiling wouldn't hurt either. A plan to keep the field mowed is in order. Purchase a mower, or schedule volunteer members to bring their own mowers. Think about it for the upcoming meetings.
I'd like to run a couple small adds in the Bolivar paper showcasing the club. Hopefully stir up some interest and a bunch of new members. Once we get the JrROTC kids some more time on the box, we could have someone from the paper come out and do an article.
That ought to give you something to chew on until our next meeting. Hope to see a packed house.
Regards,
Adam Quennoz

There were about 20 present for our Christmas party. I won the Four Star forty ARF and donated it to the Bolivar AFROTC to help them out with a second plane. Jim House won the grand prize of $200.00 for having perfect attendance to all meetings and events. There were six gallons of fuel and an assortment of other items given away for prizes and I don’t think anyone went home empty handed.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and wish everyone the best in the way of a New Year, Hope to see everyone at our meeting will be on 10 January 2008 at 6:30 in the evening at our club house.

Tidbits
Tip for cleaning bolts
I saw this little tidbit on RunRyder on cleaning bolts before applying loctite
to them. To do so, place the pile in a fine strainer (stainless) and sink it in
a pot of boiling water and regular, not lemon, Cascade detergent for about 10
minutes. Dissolve the Cascade first. Rinse thoroughly and dry when complete.
The parts are very clean when done. No further prep work is needed. This is
easier on the fingers than the manual method, especially on a new model with a
whole bag of screws to do.
Reinstalling the fuel
tank with motor installed
Have you ever tried to run those pesky fuel lines through the tiny hole in the
firewall while the motor is installed and you got a headache? Well here is your
aspirin! If you have any old pushrods or old bent landing gear lying around,
straighten them as best you can and route them through the front of the
firewall to the radio compartment. Then hook your fuel lines onto the wire and
pull the wire out of the firewall. Easy huh?
